DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves responsibility for the performance of general laboring or construction tasks, which requires physical endurance and a willingness to perform arduous tasks at times in inclement weather. The incumbent generally uses hand and power tools to perform the work but may occasionally operate automotive equipment under close supervision of a qualified operator. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a working supervisor or a similar title.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
1. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks subject to inclement weather conditions and often in an unpleasant environment;
2. Works as a helper on a snow plow or sander;
3. Participates in snow and ice control activities including shoveling and snow blowing;
4. Loads and unloads trucks;
5. Manually excavates and backfills for construction and repairs;
6. Cleans streets, park areas, buildings, bathrooms, and offices;
7. Trash pickup and removal;
8. Cut grass, trim shrubs and trees, cut brush, rake leaves, trim grass and weeds, weed flower beds;
9. Assist with tree planting and removal;
10. Assists in the installation and maintenance of windows, doors, floors including construction and maintenance;
11. May assist in painting and repair of buildings;
12. May operate motor equipment in the performance of duties;
13. Work on ballfield lining, dragging, and maintenance;
14. Assist in the general maintenance of equipment and buildings;

Ability to perform routine physical work; ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow oral instructions; willingness to work under all weather conditions; sobriety; physical endurance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Drivers license for the last 3 years.
Must be able to work Saturdays. Workweek is Tuesday-Saturday 7:00 am-3:30 pm
