Fleet Maintenance Manager

We're partnering with a well-established, family-owned waste and recycling company seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations of a growing fleet serving Northeast Ohio.
This isn't simply a shop manager position.
We're looking for someone who enjoys building systems, leading people, improving processes, reducing costs, and taking ownership of an entire maintenance operation.

What you'll do: Lead the day-to-day operation of a heavy truck maintenance facility supporting a fleet of refuse trucks and related equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead, coach and develop a team of mechanics and fabricators.
- Establish accountability while creating a positive, team-oriented shop culture.
- Develop and improve preventive maintenance programs.
- Monitor fleet reliability and identify recurring mechanical issues.
- Analyze repair history and maintenance trends to improve equipment uptime and reduce operating costs.
- Evaluate repair-versus-replacement decisions for aging equipment.
- Manage parts inventory and purchasing to reduce excess inventory while ensuring critical parts availability.
- Maximize warranty recovery opportunities with OEMs and vendors.
- Build strong relationships with dealerships, suppliers and outside repair vendors while negotiating pricing and service.
- Coordinate closely with dispatch, operations and drivers to maximize equipment availability.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA and company safety standards.
- Monitor shop productivity, scheduling and overall maintenance performance.
- Help implement and utilize modern maintenance management technology and AI-driven fleet maintenance tools.

You'll help oversee maintenance operations supporting:
- Heavy-duty refuse trucks
- Roll-off equipment
- Containers
- Shop equipment
- Additional heavy equipment with future opportunity to oversee off-road equipment operations.
Experience we are looking for:
Required
- Experience managing maintenance operations for heavy-duty truck fleets.
- Strong understanding of diesel truck maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, drivetrains, suspensions, brakes and electrical systems.
- Experience developing preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience leading mechanics and shop personnel.
- Strong inventory management and purchasing experience.
- Ability to analyze maintenance costs and equipment performance.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working with fleet maintenance software and new technology.
Preferred
- Waste, recycling, construction, municipal fleet or heavy truck experience.
- Experience with warranty administration.
- Vendor negotiation experience.
- Fabrication or container repair knowledge.
- Knowledge of welding operations.
- Experience supporting off-road heavy equipment.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- Five 10-hour days (50-hour work week)
