Part-Time Civil Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Environmental & Technical Services, LLC (ETS) is seeking a Part-Time Civil Professional Engineer (P.E.) to join our growing engineering consulting team. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer looking for a flexible schedule while contributing to meaningful municipal and private-sector water and wastewater projects throughout New Jersey.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will play a key role in the continued growth of the engineering department by providing engineering design, technical review, and consulting services to a variety of municipal sector, private-sector, state facilities as well as public and private schools. Many services are geared towards water and wastewater utility infrastructure projects throughout the State. This role offers the opportunity to help shape and expand a growing engineering practice while working alongside experienced operators, planners, and consultants.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports.
- Design water distribution, wastewater collection, pumping, and potable treatment systems.
- Complete and review NJDEP permit applications, including Treatment Works Approvals (TWAs), Stormwater Management Designs and Roadway designs.
- Provide engineering support for ETS’s water and wastewater utility operations.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and system evaluations.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and municipal officials.
- Conduct site visits and field inspections as needed.
- Review plans prepared by engineering staff and provide technical guidance.
- Assist with project management, scheduling, and client communications.
- Ensure projects comply with NJDEP regulations and applicable engineering standards.
Qualifications
- Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in New Jersey (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering preferred.
- Experience with NJDEP permitting and regulatory requirements is a plus.
- Knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, treatment facilities, and utility infrastructure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a small engineering team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD or Civil 3D is preferred.
Schedule
- Part-time
- Flexible hours based on project workload
- Hybrid/remote options may be available for qualified candidates
- Occasional travel to project sites and client meetings within New Jersey
Compensation
Competitive compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience. Higher rates will be considered for exceptional candidates with extensive municipal water and wastewater engineering experience.
