Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for mechanical scopes including HVAC and piping. The role will support the bidding process by performing takeoffs, developing labor and material budgets, and collaborating with project teams to ensure estimates are complete, compliant, and aligned with project objectives. The Mechanical Estimator will use industry estimating tools and cost databases to produce reliable proposals and support successful project wins.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed, itemized estimates for mechanical scopes of work including HVAC, piping, and associated equipment.

Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications and design documents to determine material and labor requirements.

Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor scopes, overhead and profit.

Use estimating software (ConEST, Accubid or similar) and spreadsheets to build, track and present estimates.

Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, incorporating competitive pricing and lead-time considerations.

Review contract documents for scope gaps, exclusions and compliance with codes/specifications and highlight potential risks.

Support pre-bid meetings, respond to RFI pricing questions and revise estimates as design and scope change.

Prepare clear estimate summaries and bid packages for internal review and client submissions.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Technology, or equivalent experience.

Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical estimating for construction projects, with demonstrated ability to produce accurate, competitive estimates.

Strong mechanical knowledge with direct experience estimating HVAC and piping systems (required).

Proven estimating skills and experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing material and labor cost breakdowns (required).

Proficiency with estimating software; experience with ConEST and Accubid is highly desirable.

Solid understanding of construction methods, codes, specifications and subcontractor procurement.

Ability to evaluate vendor/subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing; organized approach to documenting assumptions and risks.
