Job Summary
The Litigation Associate will handle civil and commercial litigation matters from intake through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, court appearances, settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer, careful researcher, confident communicator, and organized case manager who can move matters forward independently while working closely with partners, clients, colleagues, and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse litigation caseload involving civil litigation, commercial litigation, business disputes, construction disputes, contract claims, and related matters.
- Draft, prepare, and review pleadings, complaints, answers, motions, legal memoranda, discovery demands, discovery responses, status reports, and case evaluations.
- Conduct legal research and analysis using LexisNexis, and other legal research tools.
- Draft and argue motions, including motions to dismiss, discovery motions, dispositive motions, and other court submissions.
- Manage discovery, including interrogatories, document demands, requests for admission, subpoenas, document review, and e-discovery workflows.
- Prepare for, take, and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
- Appear in New York State and Federal courts for conferences, hearings, oral arguments, and other proceedings.
- Assist with mediations, arbitrations, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy.
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, experts, vendors, colleagues, and support staff.
- Provide clients with clear case updates, litigation strategy, risk assessments, and practical legal guidance.
- Maintain organized case files, litigation calendars, deadlines, and task lists.
Qualification
Required:
- J.D. or equivalent law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active New York Bar admission and good standing.
- Admission to the Southern District of New York and/or Eastern District of New York.
- 2-4 years of civil litigation, commercial litigation, or related litigation experience.
- Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
- Knowledge of New York State court procedure and federal court procedure.
- Experience with pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, and court appearances.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to prioritize multiple matters.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced law firm environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, legal research platforms, NYSCEF, and electronic filing systems.
Preferred (not Required):
- 4+ years of litigation experience.
- New Jersey Bar admission.
- Trial, arbitration, mediation, or deposition experience.
- Mandarin, Cantonese, Fujianese, Korean, or other language skills helpful for client service.
