We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at a busy veterinary clinic. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring the well-being of our animal patients.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, providing support as needed.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
- Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments.
- Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian, including injections and oral medications.
- Monitor animal patients' vital signs and report any changes to the veterinarian.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws or urinalysis.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each patient, documenting treatment plans and progress.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, including nutrition, grooming, and medication administration.
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology is essential for effective communication within the clinic.
- Experience or training in veterinary critical care is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with equine care is a plus for those interested in working with horses.
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a veterinary clinic setting is highly desirable.
- Skills in animal catheterization are advantageous for assisting with procedures.
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy to assist in examinations and treatments.
- Ability to administer medications accurately and follow prescribed treatment plans.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and their pets.
- A commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work well under pressure.
