JOB The City of Roanoke is seeking a Information Systems Support Specialist I in the Department of Human Services will assist in the facilitation and utilization of automated equipment and systems for the City of Roanoke Department of Human/Social Services. The successful applicant will assist in the coordination with other agencies to gain access to computer files, programs or software; assist in the training of departmental staff in use of software applications and specific equipment needed by various staff units; assist with the coordination and scheduling of the implementation of additional hardware and software, working with state and city technical support staff and networking engineers; troubleshoot to determine causes of problems and resolution; assist in inventories of computer equipment; and may perform new user security setup, including user account creation and assignment of security permissions.
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with major course work in computer science, business or related field; one to three years related experience and/or training in automated systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is an exempt position. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in the installation and repair of microcomputer equipment; responds and resolves service problems
Installs Enterprise and non-enterprise software applications
Assists in the coordination with other agencies to allow access to computer files, programs or software
Assists in administering the automated systems security procedures and password access and provides support when needed
Assists in upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware, software, electronic information sources, networking, and telecommunications equipment used in support of departmental automated systems
Assists in the preparation of detailed statistical reports, records, and documents for input into computer systems
Assists in identifying and evaluating new technologies to meet information technology needs
Assists in training departmental staff and/or patrons in use of software applications
Assists in the maintenance of inventories of computer equipment
May serves as department network administrator as needed SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
