Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to join our dynamic surgical team in Boston. As an OR RN, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care before, during, and after surgical interventions, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the operative process. Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all surgical equipment, supplies, and sterile techniques are meticulously maintained and ready for procedures.
- Assist surgeons and surgical teams during complex procedures, including ophthalmology, trauma, cardiac catheterization, and other specialties requiring specialized skills such as suturing and aseptic technique.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously and assess their condition throughout the perioperative period, providing immediate interventions as needed.
- Administer medications, including IV infusions and anesthesia support, adhering strictly to hospital protocols and safety standards.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately within electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate preoperative assessments, discharge planning, and post-operative care tailored to individual patient needs.
- Maintain infection control standards by following strict sterilization procedures and managing specimen collection/processing when necessary.
- Support patients with complex conditions such as acute pain management, infectious disease care, or those requiring specialized procedures like ventilator management or PICU experience.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license with current registration in the state of practice.
- Proven experience working in an operating room environment within a hospital setting; Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10).
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for medical documentation and patient records management.
- Experience with advanced surgical procedures including catheterization, tube feeding management, or ostomy care is advantageous.
- Critical care experience in ICU or emergency medicine settings is highly desirable.
- Excellent assessment skills with the ability to respond swiftly during critical moments; basic life support (BLS) certification required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining high standards of patient safety and confidentiality.
