Job Title: Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy Nurse (LPN/RN)

The Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy Nurse (LPN/RN) is a non-exempt position responsible for supporting the day-to-day clinical operations of the Allergy Laboratory. This role performs allergy skin testing, prepares individualized immunotherapy extracts, provides patient education, and supports overall clinical operations. The position also cross-trains to provide occasional coverage in the Allergy Injection Room as needed to support patient care and clinic operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and exceptional patient care.
- Administer allergy skin testing as ordered by the provider.
- Explain testing procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions in a calm, professional, and compassionate manner.
- Monitor patients during and after allergy testing, documenting significant findings and notifying the provider or Allergy Laboratory Supervisor/Manager of any adverse reactions.
- Enter vaccine orders into the Allergy Lab System for preparation of new immunotherapy extracts.
- Prepare individualized allergy immunotherapy extracts as ordered by the provider.
- Conduct immunotherapy education, including home immunotherapy and epinephrine auto-injector instruction, as appropriate.
- Prepare extract solutions for allergy testing and monitor inventory and expiration dates.
- Document patient communications and accurately record pertinent clinical information.
- Respond appropriately to patient concerns and clinical situations using established nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain allergy testing rooms and the extract laboratory in a clean, organized, and compliant manner.
- Assist with the care, maintenance, and inventory of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care.
- Cross-train to provide coverage in the Allergy Injection Room as needed for staffing and operational needs.
- Attend and participate in departmental and staff meetings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists policies.
- Represent Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists in a positive and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Allergy Laboratory Supervisor/Manager.
Education
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Current CPR certification.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience in a family practice, pediatric, internal medicine, or specialty medical office preferred.
- Allergy or immunology experience is preferred but not required.
