JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting the Activity Directors and activity programs across all communities within the assigned region. Ensures consistent, high-quality, resident-centered programming at each community; assists with the hiring and training of community-level Activity Directors and approves community activity calendars; serves as a resource for activity programming best practices and regulatory compliance, builds a creative calendar of events for the communities, oversees specialized programming such as memory care and dementia-focused engagement, and plans and executes corporate events on behalf of the organization. Reports to the President of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Activity programming/recreation training and/or related experience required; certification in activity programming (e.g., Activity Director Certification or equivalent) preferred. Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Must enjoy working with the elderly and all who associate with them; must be able to interact with residents who are highly susceptible to common illness without exposing them to additional health risks.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner and have the communication skills needed to interact with residents.
- Computer skills required, including proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and the systems used to review activity documentation across communities.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times and continually strive to improve resident satisfaction.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing; must be willing and able to travel regularly, including occasional overnight travel, among all communities within the assigned region.
- Ability to assist residents on and off the bus, van, or car and to move or arrange furniture for activities when covering a community or filling in for an Activity Director; ability to climb, stoop, lift, bend, kneel, push, and reach to carry out activities; ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must pass all applicable background checks and health screens as required by the operating State Department of Health.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and provide effective leadership across multiple communities and teams.
- Ability to train, coach, mentor, and evaluate the performance of community-level Activity Directors.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of activity programming and recreation principles for senior populations across multiple community settings; ability to plan, execute, and evaluate comprehensive activity calendars and programming standards; familiarity with resident-centered programming approaches; understanding of safe resident transport requirements; knowledge of infection control practices; ability to write clearly for newsletters, reports, and documentation purposes; ability to train, coach, and evaluate the performance of Activity Directors; strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities across communities within the region; knowledge of dementia and memory care programming best practices, including sensory stimulation, reminiscence therapy, life-history-based engagement, and dignity-preserving personal care approaches.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND TASKS
- Support the Activity Directors and activity programs at each community within the assigned region, ensuring programming (crafts, bingo, discussion groups, music groups, and similar activities) is well-planned, resident-centered, and consistent with company standards.
- Build out a creative, engaging calendar of events for the communities, incorporating fresh ideas, themes, and resident interests.
- Plan and execute corporate events on behalf of the organization.
- Assist with the hiring, onboarding, and training of community-level Activity Directors, providing coaching and guidance as needed.
- Conduct regular on-site visits to each community within the region to review programming, required documentation, and resident satisfaction; provide feedback, support, and follow-up as needed.
- Review and approve monthly activity calendars submitted by each community Activity Director, ensuring programming is creative, resident-centered, and consistent with company standards.
- Serve as a resource to all community Activity Directors regarding programming challenges, regulatory questions, resident needs, and best practices.
- Ensure each community’s activity program complies with applicable licensure, regulatory, safety, and infection control requirements; monitor and audit documentation and programming for compliance.
- Assist community Activity Directors with activity program planning, staffing coverage, and continuity during vacancies, leaves of absence, or leadership transitions, including temporarily performing Activity Director duties (managing the activity program, transporting residents, and completing required documentation) as needed to maintain continuity of care.
- Create, standardize, and roll out new programs, trips, events, and best practices across communities in the region in accordance with the needs and interests of residents.
- Develop and deliver training programs, tools, and resources to support consistent, high-quality activity programming across all communities in the region.
- Develop, standardize, and roll out specialized memory care and dementia programming (e.g., sensory stimulation, reminiscence therapy, life-history-based engagement, and dignity-preserving personal care routines) across communities with memory care neighborhoods.
- Train and support community Activity Directors and Life Enrichment staff on dementia care best practices, including sensory stimulation techniques, cognitive and physical activity facilitation, spiritual enrichment programming, and behavioral response strategies.
- Partner with community leadership to coordinate volunteers, chaplains, entertainers, and third-party providers to enrich programming, such as music performances, pet therapy visits, and faith-based programs.
- Support family engagement efforts, including regular communication on resident participation in programming, involvement in sales tours and move-in transitions, and connections to family support groups.
- Establish and monitor resident dignity standards, such as grooming and meaningful engagement during downtime, across communities.
- Assist in identifying and managing budget and supply needs for specialized programming initiatives across communities.
- Support other departments and community leadership as part of the interdisciplinary team; collaborate with Executive Directors and regional leadership to support overall community operations.
- Treat all residents, families, and staff with dignity and respect at all times.
- Understand, follow, and ensure safety and infection control policies and procedures are being appropriately followed at each community within the region.
- Readily and directly report any verbal or physical abuse of a resident, inappropriate use of resident or facility property, or lack of or inappropriate care per community guidelines, at any community within the region.
- Be able to apply each community’s accident, disaster, fire safety, elopement, and emergency procedures for protection of the residents when on-site.
- Understand and adhere to the Vulnerable Adult and abuse policy, Bill of Rights, and HIPAA at each community within the region.
- Comply with rules and regulations as set forth by licensure at each community within the assigned region.
- Travel regularly among all communities within the assigned region, including occasional overnight travel, to fulfill oversight and support responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily indoors across senior living communities within the assigned region, with regular travel by vehicle between communities, including occasional overnight travel. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and direct contact with residents, staff, and visitors, along with the occasional need to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, assist residents with mobility, and move furniture or supplies when setting up activities or covering a community. Regular exposure to a typical senior living environment is expected, including close contact with residents who may be susceptible to illness, and adherence to infection control and safety practices at all times.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
