Overview
We are looking for an experienced, dependable, and customer-focused Barista to join our café team. The ideal candidate should be comfortable preparing a wide variety of beverages, including espresso-based coffee drinks, teas, matcha, milkshakes, and boba drinks.
This position also involves food preparation and light cooking. Team members will prepare breakfast sandwiches and work with bagels, croissants, breads, pastries, and other café menu items.
The right candidate will be friendly, organized, attentive to detail, and able to maintain quality and consistency in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve hot and iced coffee beverages, including espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, macchiatos, and specialty drinks.
- Prepare teas, matcha drinks, milkshakes, smoothies, boba drinks, and other café beverages according to recipes and customer requests.
- Properly operate and maintain espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, tea-brewing equipment, and other café equipment.
- Prepare and cook breakfast sandwiches using bagels, croissants, breads, eggs, cheese, vegetables, and other ingredients.
- Toast, warm, plate, and serve bagels, croissants, pastries, and other café food items.
- Follow recipes, portion guidelines, and presentation standards to maintain consistency.
- Take customer orders and provide helpful recommendations based on customer preferences.
- Operate the POS system and accurately process cash, credit card, and digital transactions.
- Handle cash responsibly and provide customers with the correct change.
- Maintain clean and organized beverage, food-preparation, storage, and customer areas.
- Wash and sanitize utensils, equipment, counters, and food-contact surfaces.
- Restock cups, lids, ingredients, syrups, toppings, pastries, and other supplies as needed.
- Monitor ingredient freshness and properly label, date, rotate, and store food products.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergen-awareness, and health department requirements.
- Work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining excellent product quality and customer service.
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including equipment cleaning, restocking, and general café maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and communicate clearly during each shift.
Requirements
- Previous barista, café, restaurant, or food-service experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing espresso-based drinks and operating a commercial espresso machine.
- Experience preparing tea, matcha, milkshakes, smoothies, or boba drinks is highly preferred.
- Food preparation or light cooking experience, especially with breakfast sandwiches, bagels, croissants, breads, and pastries.
- Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
- Ability to follow recipes and consistently prepare beverages and food items to café standards.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain friendly, professional, and composed during busy periods.
- Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize several customer orders at once.
- Experience using a POS system is preferred.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine café tasks such as lifting, bending, cleaning, and restocking.
- Availability to work assigned shifts, which may include mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of espresso extraction, milk steaming, drink customization, and basic latte art.
- Familiarity with boba preparation, including cooking tapioca pearls and preparing flavored teas.
- Experience managing multiple beverage and food orders during high-volume periods.
