Summary:
Provides educational evaluation and services to patients with a psychiatric diagnosis. Services include assisting with homework, providing opportunities to manage behaviors in a classroom setting, increasing social skills and enjoying the learning process. The teacher makes contact with school counselors, teachers and parents to identify educational needs and assist with discharge planning.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred
- At least one year of experience with children/adolescents with emotional /behavioral problems
- CPI training within 30 days of hire date
- CPR Certification within 30 days of hire date
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Some evening or weekend work will be required
- Bilingual – English/Spanish.
Responsibilities:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- Assesses patient’s academic level of functioning
- Develops & implements academic curriculum at student’s level of learning
- Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team
- Documents academic progress and significant treatment issues
- Functions in therapeutic milieu as directed by charge nurse
- Maintains education standards to comply TX State Dept. of Education. (Non-certified school)
- Other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :
- One (1) year experience working with children or adolescents with special teaching needs.
- Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional teaching position
- Demonstrated skill with office machines, computer, etc.
- Skill in working in a collaborative team setting,
- Skill in establishing a balanced perspective on mission effectiveness and business results is critical.
- Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.

AGE SPECIFIC :
Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.
