DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Health Outreach Coordinator is responsible for engaging community members by providing educational materials, and information related to Environmental Health, Animal Control, Animal Shelter and Vital Statistics to local businesses, organizations, and schools. The Health Outreach Coordinator is a grant funded temporary full-time position that will conduct outreach to Harlingen residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Discusses project materials and messages with community members.
- Encourages community members to participate in project activities and education during regular working hours and some evening and weekends.
- Provides individual or group education related to Environmental Health, Animal Control, the Animal Shelter and Vital Statistics
- Assists in data collection and entry efforts including surveys and focus groups.
- Communicates participants’ questions and/or concerns to project leadership.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Handles email correspondence.
- Maintains detailed contact logs, documenting interactions and outreach efforts.
- Develops and disseminates informational flyers to raise awareness about Environmental Health, Animal Control, the Animal Shelter and Vital Statistics
- Manages an inventory of supplies designated Environmental Health, Animal Control, the Animal Shelter and Vital Statistics
- Organizes and file paperwork pertaining to all outreach efforts.
- Create detailed notes from webinars that are required to stay informed about developments and information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Additional Requirements:
Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon assignment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED & EXERCISED
- General supervision is received from the Health Director and/or Manager.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Knowledge of:
- Local Community.
- Computers.
Ability to:
- Understand text messages, smart phones, and databases.
- Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device.
- Teach individuals and large groups.
- Work some evenings and weekends.
- Establish relationships and work cooperatively with City officials, employees, and the general public.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Speak Spanish and English fluently.
- Produce written documents in the English language using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year relevant outreach/teaching experience required.
Licenses, Certificates & Registrations:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
