Position Overview
The Director of Music Ministry provides spiritual and musical leadership for the worship life of the Anointed Church of Jesus Christ. This role oversees all aspects of the church’s music program, ensuring that worship services are Christ‑centered, theologically sound, and musically excellent. The Director leads choirs and musicians, selects appropriate music, coordinates rehearsals, and fosters congregational participation in worship.
The purpose of this position is to develop, strengthen, and implement the church’s music ministry while actively engaging the congregation in worship through music.
Key Responsibilities
Worship Leadership
- Plan and lead music for all worship services, including Sunday morning worship, special services (Christmas, Easter), weddings, and funerals.
- Coordinate with the Pastor and Worship Leader to ensure musical selections support the sermon, liturgical calendar, and theological vision of the church.
Choir & Ensemble Direction
- Direct adult, youth, and children’s choirs, as well as instrumental ensembles.
- Recruit, train, and mentor vocalists and instrumentalists.
Music Selection
- Select hymns, contemporary worship songs, and special music that align with the church’s mission and worship flow.
- Ensure all music is doctrinally sound and spiritually edifying.
Weekly Communication
- Send a weekly email to the worship team with updates, song lists, and charted new music as needed.
- Maintain consistent communication with worship team members via email, text, and phone.
Rehearsals & Training
- Organize and lead weekly rehearsals for choirs, praise teams, and musicians.
- Provide musical coaching, spiritual encouragement, and leadership development.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Pastor, Worship Leader, Media Ministry, and church leadership to create cohesive worship experiences.
- Assist the Pastor with music‑related projects and participate in monthly leadership staff meetings.
- Coordinate with the Media Ministry to ensure accurate song lyrics and smooth worship flow.
Instrument & Equipment Oversight
- Oversee the care, maintenance, and organization of musical instruments, sound equipment, and music resources.
Community Engagement
- Encourage congregational participation in the music ministry.
- Recruit and mentor new musicians and vocalists.
- Offer recommendations that strengthen the church’s worship culture and music ministry.
Budget Management
- Develop and manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, equipment, and resources.
Continuing Education
- Attend approved conferences, workshops, and training events to enhance musical and leadership skills.
Qualifications
- Strong musical proficiency in both vocal and instrumental performance.
- Experience directing choirs and leading worship.
- Knowledge of traditional hymns and contemporary Christian worship music.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Pastor, leadership team, and volunteers.
- A degree in music, worship studies, or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following instruments: Guitar, Piano, or Acoustic Drums.
- A demonstrated commitment to spiritual growth and alignment with the theological vision of the Anointed Church of Jesus Christ.
Terms of Service
Hours Commitment
Part‑time: 5–10 hours per week, including:
- Mandatory Sunday morning worship
- Last Friday service each month
- Easter and Christmas services
- Participation in weddings and funerals as needed
Compensation
- $100 per Sunday, totaling $400 per month
- No additional honorarium for months with a fifth Sunday
- No benefits included
Supervision
The Director of Music Ministry reports directly to the Pastor, in consultation with the Council of Elders.
Termination of Service
A written two‑week notice is recommended by either party prior to ending service.
