Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and organized individual to join us a full-time, live-in House Director for the Alpha Phi chapter at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI beginning in August. The House Director will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Chapter house including coordination of contractors, vendors, and service providers, while following processes and staying within the provided budget. The House Director will also serve as a liaison with the University and hostess to the Chapter house.
The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for creating a positive living experience. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to lead household activities, coordinate events, and support the personal and communal needs of sorority members.
Work Hours
A total of 20 regular office hours will be established and posted for the Chapter during traditional business hours (9 am to 5 pm). Casual support of the facility and members is expected for an additional 20 hours per week.
The House Director must be onsite overnight, seven nights per week, except when prior arrangements have been made for a substitute.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
- Able to ascend and descend three flights of stairs routinely throughout the day
- Able to lift items weighing up to 30 pounds
Core Duties
- Work independently and manage day-to-day decisions without direct supervision
- Give and receive written and verbal instructions in a clear, professional manner
- Serve as a gracious hostess and supervisor for the Chapter House
- Be available for vendor access for scheduled or needed repairs and special events
- Drive for short errands related to the job, including picking up or delivering household items, mailing or shipping, and meeting vendors
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, email, online ordering, faxing, scanning, and vendor management

- Protect the safety, health, and well-being of all members and guests
- Address and resolve maintenance issues promptly
- Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, staff, and collegiate members, with respect for all who enter the facility
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, with a cooperative approach to resolving problems and responding to requests
- Operate the facility within the budget allocated for food, supplies, linens/tabletop items, and repairs, consulting regularly with the HCB President, HCB Treasurer, and/or accountant
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence within the Chapter house.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and positive residential environment.
- Serve as a resource regarding house policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Monitor and report maintenance, safety, and security concerns.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established protocols.
- Support chapter leadership in maintaining community standards.
- Document significant incidents and communicate concerns to designated representatives.
- Help ensure compliance with house rules, guest policies, quiet hours, and security procedures.
- Foster a welcoming atmosphere and encourage respectful interactions among residents.
- Assist residents with questions, concerns, and minor conflicts.
- Comply with all house rules and applicable university policies and procedures.
