JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for leading a crew in the maintenance of water lines, fire hydrants, and water valves.
MAJOR DUTIES:

Performs emergency water main repairs.

Relocates and extends water lines.

Assists with water line taps and fire hydrant repairs.

Assists in selection, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.

Restores city rights of way and private property disturbed by construction.

Performs concrete and asphalt repairs to restore property to usable condition.

Performs valve maintenance and water line mapping.
-
Cross-trains with other divisions and assists as-needed.
-
Serves on-call for snow/ice operations.

Performs distribution water maintenance.
-
Serves as the department’s utility maintenance specialist.
-
Serves on-call every sixth week and more frequently as-needed. On-call requires a 30-minute response time.

Locates utilities as-needed.

Oversees the flushing of the water distribution system annually.

Supervises and assists in making water connections to water mains for houses and businesses.

Complies with established safety standards and regulations. Promotes safety and helps set standards.

Establishes work zones to ensure the safety of staff members and the general public.

Determines necessary materials, equipment, and personnel required to perform assigned tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL Class B driver's license with air brake and tank vehicle endorsements within 6 months of hire.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Must obtain DS3 certification within 6 months of hire (requires 3 total years in water distribution to earn).
