Full-Time | Senior Leadership Position
Company Housing is open for discussion.
Salary and benefits discussed during interview.
We are seeking an experienced Director of Low Voltage Systems to lead and manage our complete low-voltage operation.
This is not an entry-level management position and not strictly a field technician position. We are looking for someone with significant hands-on and management experience who understands the technical, estimating, project management, and operational sides of low-voltage construction.
The right candidate should be capable of taking a project from bid documents through estimating, design coordination, submittals, procurement, installation, programming/commissioning, and final closeout.
Systems & Technical Experience
Strong working knowledge across multiple low-voltage disciplines is required, including:
- Fire Alarm
- CCTV / Video Surveillance
- Access Control
- Structured Cabling / Data
- Audio / Visual Systems
- Intercom and Communication Systems
- Intrusion / Security Systems
- Network infrastructure and associated low-voltage systems
Candidates do not need to be a manufacturer-certified expert in every system listed above, but must have broad commercial low-voltage experience and understand how these systems are designed, estimated, coordinated, installed, and commissioned.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Review construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents
- Perform complete low-voltage takeoffs and estimates
- Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing
- Handle both large commercial bids and smaller renovation/service estimates
- Review scope for gaps, exclusions, alternates, and coordination requirements
- Solicit and evaluate manufacturer/vendor quotes
Engineering & Design Coordination
- Work directly with engineers, consultants, manufacturers, and GCs
- Review low-voltage plans and system designs for constructability and scope
- Coordinate revisions and resolve design conflicts
- Review shop drawings and submittal packages before submission
- Ensure approved systems meet project specifications and contractual requirements
Department Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Low Voltage Department
- Schedule and manage field crews across multiple active projects
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and project priorities
- Track project progress, budgets, labor performance, and upcoming needs
- Support field technicians with technical troubleshooting and system questions
- Maintain accountability for projects from award through completion
Project Management
- Manage awarded low-voltage projects
- Handle RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and closeout
- Coordinate directly with GCs, owners, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and other trades
- Ensure installations meet project requirements, applicable codes, and company standards
Internal Technology Support
- Provide practical IT support for office and field operations
- Assist with computers, networking, printers, software, user issues, and basic technology troubleshooting
- Coordinate with outside IT providers when issues require additional support
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has:
- Significant commercial low-voltage experience
- Proven experience estimating low-voltage construction projects
- Experience managing technicians and field crews
- Strong blueprint and specification reading ability
- Experience reviewing engineered plans, shop drawings, and submittals
- Strong understanding of construction project management
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong computer and technology skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work directly with engineers, GCs, customers, vendors, and field personnel
- Strong ownership mentality and ability to operate with limited supervision
NICET certifications, manufacturer certifications, relevant licenses, and advanced experience with fire alarm, security, access control, CCTV, AV, or network systems are highly valued.
What We're Really Looking For
We need someone who understands that running a low-voltage department means more than knowing how to install low-voltage systems.
You need to understand the drawings, estimate the work, recognize scope problems before they become expensive problems, coordinate with engineers, manage the field operation, support your technicians, communicate with customers and GCs, and ultimately be accountable for delivering successful projects.
If your background is primarily limited to field installation without estimating, project management, and leadership experience, this position will not be the right fit.
For the right candidate, Check Electric offers a highly competitive compensation package based on experience and capabilities, along with benefits, company vehicle opportunities, and the ability to play a major leadership role in a growing electrical and low-voltage contractor.
Qualified candidates should apply with a resume outlining their low-voltage systems experience, estimating experience, management background, certifications, and the types/sizes of commercial projects they have managed.
