The Arc Greater Hudson Valley is currently recruiting for a Part time (20 hrs) School to Work Job Coach to work within Pawling school district located in Dutchess County.
Pawling School District Monday-Friday (10:30am-2:30pm generally) 20 hours per week
Job Summary: Provide support and counseling necessary to facilitate vocational and academic success for individuals with disabilities. 20 hour position, Located at Pawling School District
Expectations: Exercise discretion and judgment while providing job coaching activities. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner to get along with participants, collaterals, staff and co-workers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide supports to adults/students in community-based settings (job sites, school, volunteer sites, etc.) as required by the needs of the program.
- Implement and/or create lessons designed to improve the job-readiness skills of adults/students.
- Work side by side with the individuals completing all tasks, be a positive role model including appropriate attire, and ensure quality workmanship at sites. Good writing skills to document daily and monthly activities supporting the person(s) work goals.
- Provide transportation to the worksite, volunteer site, school, home or common site, as need dictates. May be required to use own vehicle to attend meetings and/or work assignments.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of the individuals we support, their families, employees and the organization as a whole.
- Maintain up to date in all trainings, including CPR/First Aid, SCIP, OPWDD Innovations and Relias.
- Attend Life Plan meetings; review Life Plans & IPOPS. Notify supervisor with any updates to Staff Action Plan goals and safeguards.
- Understand what constitutes abuse, intervene and report it to the appropriate parties immediately.
- Avoid any activity while on agency premises or while engaging in agency business, that is (or gives the appearance of being) illegal, including a violation of criminal and/or civil law as well as federal, state or agency policy, rules or regulations, or that could in any way harm or operate to the detriment of the agency and/or the individuals we support.
- Provide crisis intervention and prevention services as appropriate and assist the individuals we support in evacuation of a crisis situation.
- Act as a role model for the individuals we support; this includes but is not limited to modeling appropriate interactions and respect toward all as well as advocating appropriately on their behalf.
- Promote the health and safety of all staff and individuals served by informing their supervisor of any unsafe procedure and/or condition that they become aware of.
- Communicate effectively with appropriate agency staff to ensure consistency in the implementation and follow through of the philosophy and mission of the Agency.
- Act according to the agency mission statement and ideals.
- Provide willingness to work overtime hours when requested by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Two years’ experience with individuals with developmental disabilities in a vocational setting preferred.
- Ability to train individuals with developmental and other disabilities in a work or school setting is required.
- Experience using Chromebooks and Smart Boards highly preferred. Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program.
Other requirements include:
- excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
- Must be able to document daily/monthly notes and possess good computer skills.
- Must also be able to demonstrate through action and relationships within the organization a commitment to teamwork and the agency mission.
Maintain valid licenses, including driving license, certifications or any other credentials that are required or necessary to carry out the responsibilities upon and throughout employment
