Position Overview
CARMAhealth is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide in-person psychiatric care for patients with mental health and substance use disorders. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of clinical PMHNP experience and be comfortable managing patients in both psychiatric and addiction treatment settings.
This position focuses on psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and supporting patients receiving treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in a structured clinical environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and history and physical examinations
- Diagnose and treat mental health disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders
- Provide psychiatric medication management and monitor treatment outcomes
- Provide psychiatric services for patients receiving withdrawal management and substance use treatment services
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable state and federal regulations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and organizational compliance activities
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment recommendations
- Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in a fast-paced, team-based environment
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
- Active and unrestricted Texas Nurse Practitioner license
- Active DEA license required
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate clinical experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required
- Experience treating patients with psychiatric disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders strongly preferred
- Experience in psychiatry, addiction medicine, detoxification, residential treatment, or behavioral health settings preferred
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and medication management skills
- Excellent communication, documentation, and patient engagement abilities

- Knowledge of addiction medicine and the disease model of substance use disorders
