Overview
We are seeking a passionate and energetic Benefits Specialist to join our team and help manage government programs designed for seniors and adults with disabilities. In this vital role, you will assist clients in navigating complex social services systems, ensuring they receive the benefits they are entitled to. Your work will directly impact high-risk populations by providing compassionate support, detailed case management, and culturally competent service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Guide clients through government programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and other social service benefits tailored for seniors and disabled adults
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments to determine eligibility for various benefits programs
- Maintain accurate data entry and detailed case records using Microsoft Office tools and specialized social services software
- Provide client communication through phone calls, in-person meetings, and written correspondence with clarity and empathy
- Apply motivational interviewing techniques to encourage program participation and foster positive engagement
- Collaborate with community partners to coordinate workforce development initiatives and culturally diverse community outreach efforts.
- Must be able to secure OSHIIP certificaion in the first 180 days of employment.
Experience
- Proven experience working with individuals from underserved communities, including seniors and adults with disabilities
- Strong background in social services, or related fields with a focus on high-risk populations.
- Compentency in assisting clients in selecting the appropriate Medicaid, Medicare, and other social service benefits for their needs.
- Familiarity with Section 8 housing programs or similar housing assistance initiatives is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability in case management, and client communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) along with data entry skills for maintaining accurate records
- Excellent writing skills for documentation purposes; experience working with culturally diverse communities is essential.
