Position Summary
Our client, Chiron Communications Services (read more on company website: https://chironcomm.com/), is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Aerial Lineman to join our telecommunications construction team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing, maintaining, and repairing aerial fiber optic infrastructure while adhering to the highest safety and quality standards. This role also requires a willingness to perform underground fiber construction work as project needs dictate.
The Fiber Optic Aerial Lineman will be responsible for installing aerial fiber optic cables, operating specialized equipment, reading construction prints, and supporting both aerial and underground telecommunications projects.
Key Responsibilities
Aerial Fiber Installation
- Install steel support strands (messenger wire) and lash fiber optic cables to utility poles.
- Install, secure, and route aerial fiber optic cables according to engineering designs and construction standards.
- Perform pole transfers, cable overlash, and new aerial construction.
- Create and maintain proper slack loops and cable storage.
Underground Construction Support
- Assist with underground fiber construction activities when required.
- Install conduit, pull fiber optic cable, and support directional boring or trenching operations.
- Transition between aerial and underground construction projects based on operational needs.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate bucket trucks, cable pullers, lashing machines, winches, and other construction equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Ensure equipment is operated in accordance with company safety policies.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged aerial fiber optic infrastructure.
- Replace damaged hardware, cable, and support components.
- Perform emergency restoration work following outages or storm damage.
- Ensure completed work meets company and customer quality standards.
Blueprint & Network Documentation
- Read and interpret construction prints, network maps, utility drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Follow cable routing plans accurately.
- Report field changes and document completed work.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA regulations, electrical clearance requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Conduct daily job hazard analyses and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Fiber Optic Aerial Lineman.
- Preferred: 5 or more years of aerial fiber construction experience.
- Experience installing aerial fiber optic cable on utility poles.
- Willingness and ability to perform underground fiber construction work as needed.
- Experience operating bucket trucks, cable pullers, and lashing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, utility maps, and network prints.
- Strong understanding of aerial fiber construction practices and industry standards.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both aerial and underground telecommunications construction.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Knowledge of utility pole safety and electrical clearance requirements.
- Experience working with major telecommunications providers.
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb utility poles and ladders up to 40 feet.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding environments.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites in various weather conditions.
- Frequent travel to project locations.
- Flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends, and emergency restoration work when necessary.
- Work at elevated heights using bucket trucks and climbing equipment.
Pay: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour
