Paxton Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our busy, privately owned small animal practice. We are looking for a compassionate, dependable team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing exceptional patient care and client service.
Veterinary technician certification is not required, but previous hands-on veterinary technician experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, and medical procedures
- Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations and treatments
- Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other laboratory samples
- Perform patient blood draws with confidence and accuracy
- Administer injectable medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian
- Perform laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratories
- Place and maintain IV catheters
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Monitor anesthesia and surgical patients
- Take and record patient vital signs
- Obtain radiographs
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Educate clients on medications, treatments, and preventative care
- Fill prescriptions and prepare medications
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment and surgical areas
- Assist with patient admissions and discharges
- Work collaboratively with doctors, receptionists, and fellow technicians
Requirements
- Previous veterinary technician experience is required
- Veterinary Technician Certification is welcome but not required
- Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of all sizes and temperaments
- Experience with blood draws, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, and radiology
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable, motivated, and able to work well independently and as part of a team

Experience
- Veterinary technician: 2+ years preferred (required experience)
- Anesthesia monitoring: Preferred
- Venipuncture and catheter placement: Preferred
Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
