Hartway Remodeling is a Pittsburgh-based design-build remodeling company working on kitchens, bathrooms, additions, outdoor spaces, and whole-house renovations. Much of our work involves detailed, custom projects, including historic homes and more complex remodels.
The Role
We are hiring a Lead Carpenter to lead day-to-day field work on residential remodeling projects. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility for quality, production, and how the job comes together in the field.
Pay is based on experience, skill, and ability to lead projects independently.
You will work closely with company leadership to prepare for upcoming work, coordinate field activities, manage day-to-day production, and keep projects moving.
What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day field operations on 1 to 2 active residential remodeling projects
- Self-perform skilled carpentry including layout, framing, blocking, trim, cabinetry, doors, hardware, finishes, and punch work
- Direct carpenters and apprentices in the field
- Coordinate with subcontractors, deliveries, and inspections
- Review plans, scopes of work, and site conditions before work begins
- Plan ahead, confirm layout and dimensions, protect finished surfaces, and help avoid preventable rework
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, client-ready jobsite
- Communicate clearly with homeowners, designers, trade partners, and internal team members
- Track field progress, document changes, and keep work aligned with schedule, scope, and quality standards
- Complete punchlists and closeout items with care and attention to detail
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of residential remodeling carpentry experience
- Lead carpenter experience preferred
- Strong finish and general carpentry skills
- Ability to read drawings, scopes of work, and project details and build accordingly
- Good judgment, problem-solving ability, and pride in quality work
- Professional communication with clients and team members
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Personal hand and power tools appropriate for the role
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with historic homes, kitchens and baths, additions, decks, porches, and major renovations
- EPA RRP certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- First aid or CPR certification
- Familiarity with JobTread, Google Workspace, or similar construction software
- Specialty skills such as tile, paint spraying, built-ins, or fine woodworking
