Abtrex designs and fabricates ASME pressure vessels, storage/processing tanks, and other ancillary equipment including piping, tumblers, and hoppers.
We serve demanding industries including mining, power generation, chemical processing, steel, pulp & paper, cement, water/wastewater, and heavy manufacturing. We are currently seeking a Quality Control Inspector to join our team in South Bend, Indiana.
You’ll love coming to work every day if you get, want, and have the capacity to:
- Ensure Proper Documentation – Maintain and file QC documents in corresponding job files per QMS and ISO 9001 standards.
- Utilize Inspection Tools – Proficient in using durometer, micrometer, and thickness gauges; and other quality measurement instruments.
- Ensure Compliance with Standards – Verify adherence to ISO 9001, ASME section VIII, and other industry-specific regulations.
- Perform Visual Weld Inspection (VT) – Inspect welds for defects (cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.) per AWS/ASME standards.
- Conduct In-house Lining and Coating Inspections - Perform NDT like spark testing, durometer hardness, and adhesion testing to assess the integrity and quality of rubber linings.
- Understand Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Requirements including Radiography (RT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Dye Penetrant (PT), and Ultrasonic (UT) testing
- Implement Quality Improvement Processes – Work with interdepartmental teams to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
- Manage Equipment Maintenance & Calibration – Oversee calibration of measuring equipment and preventive maintenance plan.
- Develop & Track Quality Metrics – Establish performance indicators for continuous improvement across all teams.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality inspection within fabrication, welding, or rubber lining industries.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Deductive skills for problem resolution
- Strong technical background
- Knowledge of QMS and ISO 9001 standards
