Position Title: Substitute Early Childhood Paraprofessional

Reports To: Building Principal and/or Early Childhood Director
Position Summary
The Substitute Early Childhood Paraprofessional provides temporary classroom support to early childhood teachers and staff in the absence of regularly assigned paraprofessionals. This position assists in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children while supporting instructional activities, supervision, and daily classroom routines.
Substitutes may work in classrooms serving preschool or early childhood students and are expected to follow district policies, procedures, and established classroom practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist the teacher in implementing daily instructional activities and classroom routines.

Support the supervision of students in classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, and during transitions.

Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for young children.

Provide individual or small-group support to students as directed by the teacher.

Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and learning centers.

Support student social, emotional, and behavioral development using appropriate strategies.

Assist with basic student needs including helping children with routines such as dressing, eating, and toileting when necessary.

Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.

Follow all district safety procedures, emergency protocols, and supervision expectations.

Work collaboratively with teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff.

Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, principal, or program supervisor.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Ability to establish positive working relationships with teachers and support staff.

Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written language.

Ability to supervise and interact appropriately with young children.

Ability to follow directions and implement teacher guidance.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school setting.
Required Background Checks
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including:

Criminal background screening and fingerprinting

Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check

Trails Child Abuse and Neglect Background Check (paid for by the District)
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the classroom and playground environment.

Ability to lift and carry classroom materials or assist children as needed.

Ability to actively supervise students indoors and outdoors.

Terms of Employment
Substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment.
Salary/Benefits:
Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
