Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, or age-related conditions. Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor residents’ health status by taking vital signs, observing changes in behavior or condition, and reporting findings accurately to healthcare professionals.
- Support medication administration in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs, including meal planning and cooking in accordance with health guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing routine cleaning tasks, laundry, and sanitation procedures within group home or assisted living settings.
- Implement individualized care plans designed by healthcare teams, focusing on promoting independence and enhancing quality of life.
- Engage residents in social activities and community outings to foster social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being.
- Document care activities accurately while adhering to privacy standards such as HIPAA; participate in ongoing training related to patient observation, dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, autism support, hospice care, and other specialized services.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, dementia care strategies—including Alzheimer’s and memory care—and working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is required; additional training in medication administration or nursing assistance is preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks associated with caregiving responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Experience with assisting residents with mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts or resident’s personal assistive devices is advantageous.
