Duties
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and oral surgery treatments
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental equipment, and ensuring all supplies are ready for patient care
- Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans while adhering to infection prevention management and aseptic techniques
- Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, treatment plans, and medical coding
- Provide excellent patient care by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, and addressing patient questions with professionalism and compassion
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support dental sterilization procedures and infection control protocols to uphold the highest standards of healthcare infection prevention and control expertise
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Patient management software, or Epic for efficient record keeping
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental instruments, equipment, and medical imaging techniques
- Experience with chairside assisting in general dentistry as well as specialized areas like pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, or pediatrics is highly desirable
- Ability to operate dental x-ray machines safely and accurately while following all infection prevention policies
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with patients as a dental receptionist when needed and provide clear instructions for post-treatment care
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures
- Familiarity with medical documentation practices including medical coding and electronic health records management
