We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our dynamic learning community. In this vital role, you will support classroom teachers and contribute to creating an engaging, inclusive, and effective educational environment for students with learning and cognitive disabilities . This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners while collaborating with a team of committed educators. Focus Day School is a private, non-profit school, serving students with disabilities in grades 3 - 10 for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for a part-time educational assistant to work Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 1:30pm, supporting our learners who require additional staff support in the classroom, as well as assist all students at lunch and recess.
Duties
- Assist teachers in implementing curriculum plans aligned with educational standards and student needs, including reading, math, science and social studies.
- Support classroom management by promoting positive behavior management strategies and conflict resolution techniques.
- Prepare instructional materials and utilize learning technology (LMS) platforms to enhance lesson delivery and student engagement.
- Provide individualized support for students with disabilities.
- Monitor students in the classroom, lunch and at recess.
- Support teachers with small group learning.
- Demonstrate respect for students, colleagues, administrators and parents.
- Escort students to classes or specialized functions.
- Other duties as assigned by administration and/or teachers.
Skills
- Experience working with children across various age groups, including elementary - high school students, and students with special needs.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with teachers and students.
- Strong organizational skills instructional support, and maintaining accurate records of student progress.
- Ability to handle specific assignments independently and in a timely manner.
- Ability to maintain flexibility in performance of responsibilities.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Required to walk up and down stairs, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit or stand for long periods of time; walk, lift up to 50 pounds.
- Position requires reaching with both dominant and non-dominant hand and overhead.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
