Amelia County is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Animal Shelter Technician to assist with the daily operations of the County Animal Shelter. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of animals while providing excellent customer service to the public.
This position is part of Amelia County's Animal Control Career Progression Program, providing an opportunity for qualified employees to develop the skills, knowledge, and certifications necessary to advance into the role of Animal Control Officer I.
What You'll Do
- Feed, water, and provide daily care for shelter animals.
- Clean and maintain animal housing areas and shelter facilities.
- Exercise, socialize, and groom animals as needed.
- Assist visitors, answer phone calls, respond to emails, and direct inquiries appropriately.
- Prepare service requests and assist with administrative tasks and recordkeeping.
- Support Animal Control Officers with daily operations and shelter activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shelter environment.
- Participate in assigned weekend shelter coverage.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, cleaning, and handling animals. Employees must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
