Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Cheese Clerk to join our specialty food retail team. In this role, you will be responsible for expertly handling, slicing, and presenting a variety of cheeses to ensure an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong knife skills, knowledge of food safety standards, and a passion for culinary arts. Responsibilities
- Skillfully slice and prepare cheese products using proper knife techniques and food preparation equipment.
- Assist customers by providing knowledgeable recommendations and engaging in friendly service.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cheese display area, ensuring products are well-presented and properly stored.
- Handle heavy lifting of cheese blocks and related supplies safely, adhering to manual handling protocols.
- Support meal and food preparation activities by assisting with ingredient portioning and catering setups.
- Follow food safety management standards to ensure all products are handled, stored, and served in compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct sensory evaluation of cheeses to assess quality, ripeness, and flavor profiles.
- Operate slicing machines and other food production equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and rotating products appropriately.
- Maintain accurate records of product expiration dates and ensure proper disposal of expired items.
- Uphold excellent customer service standards by addressing inquiries professionally and courteously.
Experience
Candidates should possess prior experience in food service or retail environments, preferably within the food industry or restaurant settings. Specific experience that is advantageous includes:
- Food handling and safety management skills
- Culinary or kitchen experience with emphasis on cheese or dairy products
- Proficiency in knife skills, slicing techniques, and use of food preparation equipment
- Catering experience or involvement in meal preparation for events
- Familiarity with food safety standards in production environments
- Basic math skills for portioning and inventory control
- Strong understanding of sensory evaluation methods for quality assessment
