Vernon Transportation is looking for an experienced Tractor/Trailer Mechanic and fabricator to join our team. We haul sweetener throughout California and surrounding states. Our shop maintains our fleet of tractor and trailers, from routine maintenance to major repairs.
Job Description:
- Inspects equipment following mechanical failure, breakdown, accident, or damage; diagnoses heavy equipment mechanical problems and failures.
- Conducts safety inspections of trucks and equipment; conducts diagnostic testing of engines and systems to determine mechanical problems.
- Repairs, maintains, and tests engine components and systems, such as ignition systems, steering systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems, etc.
- Performs routine servicing and preventive maintenance on tractors and trailer equipment; replacing tires/belts/hoses, checking batteries, greasing equipment, or performing tune-ups.
- Performs welding and fabrication work, which may include cutting metal, fabricating components, or soldering metal components.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with repairing, maintaining, testing, welding, or driving trucks and trailers.
- Tests trucks, machinery, equipment, and parts for proper operations; makes necessary adjustments.
- Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep trucks, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, cleaning shop, or emptying trash containers; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
Qualifications:
5 years of verifiable experience in Diesel Mechanical maintenance
High School Diploma
Strong organizational skills

Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
Ability to follow and safety and company policies
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
- Pass a drug screen
- Pass physical

· Outside field work in a variety of climates, including heat, rain, snow, and wind
· Ability lift or move up to 50 pounds
