We’re an independent neighborhood coffee shop built around great coffee, genuine hospitality, creativity, and community. As we get busier, we’re looking for a few exceptional people to join our barista team.
This isn’t a job where you’ll simply stand behind an espresso machine.
Our baristas make drinks, prepare food, take orders, clean, restock, solve problems, learn our customers’ names, and help keep a busy coffee shop moving.
We’re looking for people who take that responsibility seriously — and enjoy it.
- Prepare espresso drinks, brewed coffee, cold brew, tea, and specialty beverages consistently and accurately
- Learn and follow Cedar Bean’s recipes and drink standards
- Take customer orders and operate our Clover point-of-sale system
- Prepare breakfast sandwiches and other café food
- Provide friendly, attentive service to both new customers and regulars
- Work quickly and accurately during busy periods
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar
- Wash dishes, clean equipment, wipe tables, sweep, mop, and perform routine café cleaning
- Restock milk, cups, food, coffee, and supplies
- Complete opening and/or closing responsibilities
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and management
- Notice what needs to be done and help without waiting to be asked
Previous specialty-coffee experience is key, but it isn’t our only consideration.
Restaurant, café, retail or other fast-paced customer-service experience is also valuable.
More importantly, you should be:
-
Dependable and punctual
- Friendly and comfortable talking with customers
- Able to stay calm and organized when we’re busy
- Comfortable working quickly without sacrificing quality
- Able to learn and remember a large drink and food menu
- Detail-oriented
- Comfortable receiving feedback and following established recipes and procedures
- Willing to clean and maintain the café — cleaning is part of everyone’s job
- Comfortable working as part of a team
- Able to work independently when necessary
- Someone who sees something that needs doing and does it
We’re a busy independent coffee shop, and we want applicants to understand the job before applying.
This probably isn’t the right position if you’re looking primarily for a quiet place to hang out, don’t enjoy interacting with customers, dislike cleaning, have difficulty arriving on time, or aren’t comfortable working quickly when several orders come in at once.
Coffee experience is key.
Reliability, hospitality, and work ethic are essential.
We are looking for team members who can commit to a consistent schedule.
Please include your actual weekly availability when applying.

Cedar Bean’s Coffee Joint is an independent neighborhood coffee shop in Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
Since 2018, we’ve worked to create something more than a place to buy coffee. Cedar Bean’s is a gathering place for our community, with local art, live music, open mics, events and a team that genuinely gets to know the people who walk through the door.
We’re proud of the coffee we make.
We’re equally proud of the way we treat people.
Please send us:
