Second Shift Lead / Cashier
Fleming’s Auto Services is looking for a dependable, motivated, and experienced Shift Leader to help run our evening convenience store operations.
This is a hands on working leadership position. The Shift Lead will spend part of the shift working as a cashier and assisting customers, while also taking responsibility for making sure the store is clean, stocked, organized, safe, and operating properly.
This is not a position where you simply assign work to others. We are looking for someone who is willing to lead by example, work alongside the team, notice what needs to be done and make sure it gets done.
The Second Shift Lead reports to the Assistant Manager and Store Manager.
Typical Shift: 2:00 PM–10:00 PM
Hours: Approximately 30–40 hours per week
Schedule: Rotating weekends required; must also have some flexibility to fill in on morning/day shifts periodically as needed
Responsibilities
- Work regularly as a cashier while also leading the second-shift team
- Provide friendly, professional customer service
- Lead employees by example and help keep the shift productive and organized
- Assign and follow up on shift duties
- Take the lead on store cleaning and make sure cleaning standards are maintained
- Keep shelves, coolers, displays, food areas, and other store areas stocked
- Organize inventory, storage areas, coolers, back rooms, and work areas
- Identify items that need to be stocked, ordered, cleaned, repaired, or brought to management’s attention
- Prepare food and assist with daily food-service operations
- Monitor food temperatures, cleanliness, labeling, rotation, expiration dates, and proper food handling
- Make sure employees follow food-safety and sanitation procedures
- Keep food-preparation and service areas clean and properly maintained
- Help train employees on cashiering, cleaning, stocking, food preparation, and store procedures
- Monitor employee performance, productivity, breaks, and completion of assigned duties
- Assist management with scheduling needs, shift coverage, employee availability, and schedule changes
- Help find coverage when necessary and communicate staffing concerns to management
- Fill in on morning or daytime shifts periodically when staffing needs require it
- Handle customer concerns and routine problems during the shift
- Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs when appropriate
- Identify equipment or maintenance problems and communicate larger issues to management
- Handle cash accurately and follow register and cash-control procedures
- Follow all company procedures for tobacco, lottery, alcohol, and other age-restricted products
- Make sure the store remains clean, stocked, organized, and customer-ready throughout the shift
- Complete and verify closing duties
- Communicate important employee, customer, inventory, maintenance, or operational issues to management
- Help maintain a professional, positive, and accountable work environment
We are looking for someone who sees what needs to be done and takes care of it.
The right person should be comfortable moving between running a register, preparing food, cleaning, stocking shelves, helping an employee, solving a customer problem, organizing a storage area, or handling a minor maintenance issue.
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous retail, convenience store, grocery, restaurant, or customer-service experience
- Previous shift lead, supervisor, or management experience strongly preferred
- Dependable and punctual
- Strong work ethic
- Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable giving employees direction and following up on their work
- Willing to hold employees accountable to store expectations
- Strong customer-service and communication skills
- Comfortable handling cash and using a point-of-sale system
- Experience with food preparation or food-service operations is helpful
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation is preferred
- Ability to identify and handle basic maintenance or minor repair issues is helpful
- Able to work independently and make reasonable decisions when management is not immediately available
- Able to work approximately 30–40 hours per week
- Available to work primarily 2:00 PM–10:00 PM and rotating weekend
- Able to occasionally work morning or daytime shifts as needed for coverage

We need a leader who will work alongside the team, set the pace, maintain standards, and help make sure Fleming’s is left clean, stocked, organized, and ready for the next day.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
