Corral de Tierra Country Club is seeking an experienced, organized, and service-oriented Merchandiser/Buyer to lead all retail merchandising operations while assisting with daily Golf Shop operations. This individual will be responsible for purchasing, merchandising, inventory management, special orders, and creating an exceptional shopping experience for our members and guests.
The ideal candidate has a passion for golf retail, a strong eye for merchandising, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to analyze sales trends to maximize inventory performance. This position works closely with the Head Golf Professional and Golf Staff to ensure the Golf Shop reflects the high standards of our private country club while providing exceptional member service.
Essential Responsibilities
Merchandising & Buying
- Plan, purchase, and merchandise golf apparel, equipment, gifts, accessories, and seasonal merchandise.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with golf industry vendors and sales representatives.
- Analyze sales reports, inventory levels, and buying trends to maximize profitability while minimizing excess inventory.
- Manage open-to-buy budgets and maintain appropriate inventory levels throughout the year.
- Receive, price, tag, and merchandise inventory in an attractive and organized manner.
- Create visually appealing displays that showcase seasonal trends, new arrivals, and club events.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Manage vendor invoices, purchase orders, and merchandise receiving.
- Coordinate club logo merchandise, embroidery orders, and promotional merchandise.
- Assist in planning annual merchandise assortments and achieving retail sales goals.
- Identify new product opportunities and stay current with golf industry trends.
Golf Shop Operations
- Provide exceptional customer service to members and guests while creating a welcoming Golf Shop experience.
- Check in members and guests for daily play and assist with all Golf Shop transactions.
- Manage the daily tee sheet, including reservations, modifications, and member requests.
- Open and/or close the Golf Shop following established procedures.
- Process point-of-sale transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Assist members with merchandise selections, equipment purchases, apparel fittings, and gift recommendations.
- Coordinate and process special orders for golf clubs, apparel, shoes, accessories, logo merchandise, and other retail items.
- Proactively communicate with members regarding special orders, merchandise arrivals, club repairs, and any additional Golf Shop requests to ensure outstanding follow-up and service.
- Assist the Golf Professional Staff with tournament preparation, registration, scoring, prize displays, merchandise sales, and event setup.
- Answer telephone calls, respond to member inquiries, and assist with tee time reservations.
- Support daily golf operations, member events, and guest outings as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, fully stocked, and professional Golf Shop environment.
- Perform other Golf Shop and club operational duties as assigned to support the Golf Professional Staff and enhance the overall member experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of golf retail merchandising and/or buying experience is REQUIRED.
- Experience purchasing golf apparel and merchandise is required.
- Strong visual merchandising and retail presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to analyze sales data and make informed buying decisions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail point-of-sale/inventory systems.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Golf Professional Staff.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a private country club or high-end golf facility.
- Knowledge of premium golf brands including Titleist, FootJoy, Peter Millar, Holderness & Bourne, Greyson, Travis Mathew, Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade, G/FORE, and similar vendors.
- Experience with ForeTees, Golf Genius, Jonas, or comparable golf industry software is preferred.
