I. POSITION SUMMARY
Trinity Plastics is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to support production, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced plastics manufacturing environment. This position will improve existing processes, support new product and formulation development, troubleshoot production and quality issues, and help maintain customer, regulatory, and quality management system requirements.
The ideal candidate is a practical problem-solver who is comfortable working on the production floor, collaborating with operations and quality teams, analyzing process data, and driving improvements that support safety, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Process and Product Improvement
1. Lead process improvement projects focused on product quality, productivity, scrap reduction, and operational efficiency.
2. Support new product, process, and formulation development from trial through production approval.
3. Coordinate production trials, sample reviews, documentation, and follow-up actions.
4. Review and support product specifications, formulations, raw materials, masterbatches, and quality standards.
B. Troubleshooting and Technical Support
1. Troubleshoot production and quality issues with plant leadership, operators, quality, maintenance, vendors, and customers.
2. Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
3. Communicate with raw material suppliers regarding new materials, resin performance, troubleshooting, and material qualification.
C. Quality System and Customer Support
1. Support customer complaint investigations, corrective actions, and technical responses.
2. Assist with Quality Management System maintenance and improvement, including ISO 9001, GMP, SQF, and customer or regulatory requirements.
3. Support audits, documentation, follow-up actions, and corrective action tracking.
4. Follow plant safety rules and support company safety, quality, and productivity goals.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Required
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
2. At least three years of experience in plastics manufacturing, film extrusion, converting, quality, or a related manufacturing environment.
3. Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
4. Experience leading projects and working cross-functionally with production, quality, maintenance, and management teams.
5. Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to work effectively on the production floor and in an office environment.
8. Good attendance, reliability, and attention to detail.
B. Preferred
1. Experience with blown film, extrusion, converting, flexible packaging, or resin formulation.
2. Knowledge of ISO 9001, GMP, SQF, or similar quality management systems.
3. Internal auditing experience or quality management system auditing certification.
4. Design of Experiments (DOE) knowledge.
5. Supervisory or team leadership experience.
6. Experience with customer complaint investigations, corrective actions, and root cause analysis.
IV. WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. This role requires time in both office and manufacturing environments.
2. The employee may be exposed to heat, noise, moving machinery, odors, fumes, dust, oils, and other standard manufacturing conditions.
3. The position may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
4. The position may require visual inspection work, including the ability to differentiate colors.
