Position Summary: As a Briefing Attorney at Witherite Law Group, you'll provide key legal support to our litigation teams. Your main responsibilities will include conducting legal research, drafting briefs, motions, and memoranda, and helping develop legal strategies for ongoing cases. You'll analyze case law, review filings, and assist senior attorneys in preparing for hearings and trials. The ideal candidate will have strong writing, research, and analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough legal research to support ongoing litigation, identifying key legal issues, precedents, and strategies.

Draft legal briefs, motions, and memoranda for use in court filings, focusing on clarity, persuasiveness, and legal accuracy.

Prepare detailed legal analyses of case law, statutes, regulations, and other legal materials, summarizing complex legal principles for use in litigation strategy.

Assist senior attorneys in drafting and editing pleadings, discovery requests, and responses, ensuring precision and compliance with applicable legal standards.

Review and analyze case files, ensuring all legal documentation is accurate, relevant, and ready for trial.

Provide support in developing case strategy by analyzing research findings and proposing persuasive legal arguments.

Ensure the timely preparation and filing of legal documents, meeting all procedural requirements and deadlines.

Collaborate with litigation teams, including senior attorneys and support staff, to prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials.

Communicate complex legal arguments in clear, concise, and well-organized writing to clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.

Stay current on relevant case law, legal trends, and procedural changes that may impact case preparation and outcomes.

Assist in reviewing opposing briefs and motions, providing insights and analysis to inform litigation strategy.

Participate in firm-wide initiatives, such as professional development, training, and legal research updates.
Qualifications:
-
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Licensed to practice law in the state or eligible for admission by reciprocity.

4+ years of experience in legal research, drafting legal documents, or supporting litigation.

Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.

Proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, etc.).

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to learn and develop further expertise in legal research and litigation.

Previous experience in litigation support or briefing.

Experience working in commercial vehicle accident litigation is a plus.

Familiarity with trucking litigation and the commercial motor vehicle industry is a plus.

Trial preparation experience a plus.
Physical Requirements:

Office environment with normal business hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions.
- Stationary Position – Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.

Move or Traverse – This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, office machinery, etc. May occasionally ascends/descends the stairs to get to other floors, cafeteria and parking area.
