Duties
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using patient transfer methods and equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
- Observe and document patient conditions accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems or Electronic Medical Records (EMR), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; report any abnormalities promptly to the nursing staff.
- Support medication administration following medical terminology guidelines and home healthcare regulations under supervision.
- Provide specialized care for patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, including memory care techniques and behavioral management strategies.
- Assist with medical procedures like catheter care, wound care, and end-of-life care with compassion and professionalism.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by assisting with light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, cleaning patient areas, and meal preparation to promote overall well-being.
- Communicate effectively with clients and their families to ensure personalized care plans are followed and needs are met promptly.
Qualifications
- Valid CNA certification or equivalent licensure in North Carolina; prior assisted living or nursing home experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or geriatrics; familiarity with dementia and hospice care is highly valued.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, medication administration, catheter care, and basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification required.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for medical documentation; understanding of home health care regulations is a plus.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform patient transfer methods using assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Compassionate caregiving attitude combined with attention to detail in patient observation and documentation.
