Duties
- Provide direct patient care across various departments, including medical-surgical units, intensive care units (ICU), emergency rooms, and specialty clinics such as ophthalmology and geriatrics.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform suturing and catheterization procedures following aseptic techniques.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations to evaluate health status and develop individualized care plans.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems like Cerner and Athenahealth to document medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, processing, and interpretation of results such as ICD coding (ICD-9/10) for accurate billing and documentation.
- Manage acute pain and chronic conditions through advanced pain management practices; participate in triage for urgent care cases and coordinate discharge planning.
- Support specialized treatments including dialysis, ostomy care, gastrostomy tube feeding, ventilator management, and neonatal resuscitation procedures when applicable.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license in good standing with current state registration.
- Proven experience working in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I/II trauma centers; ICU experience preferred.
- Strong familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical documentation is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and laboratory procedures.
- Experience with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Skilled in IV insertion, venipuncture, sterile processing techniques, and infection control protocols.
- Excellent patient assessment skills coupled with the ability to perform physical examinations confidently.
- Additional qualifications such as experience in emergency medicine, occupational health, hospice & palliative medicine, or home & community care are highly valued.
