Job Description – Senior EIC Engineer
Position Overview
BurCell Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) Engineer to lead all EIC activities during both project development and project execution phases of BurCell Technologies’ waste-to-resource projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing, defining, reviewing and managing electrical instrumentation, and controls engineering designs for industrial process projects. Experience in chemical processing, renewable energy facilities or anaerobic digestion is plus. Reporting to the VP of Project Engineering this position offers the opportunity to contribute to the commercialization of innovative technologies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
The Senior EIC Engineer position is a contract position initially, transitioning to permanent full-time role. The location is remote or onsite in the Kennesaw GA office. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Develop, define, coordinate and review electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering designs for industrial process projects.
- Support FEL1, FEL2 and FEL3/FEED design and estimating efforts in project development phase.
- Develop and maintain Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and Electrical Load List (ELL) templates for use in development phase.
- Responsible for project specific P&IDs based on templates and incorporation of supplier P&ID’s. Review and redline supplier P&IDs.
- Coordinate and manage 3rd party electrical engineers. Define scope and provide specifications for detail engineering during project execution.
- Coordinate and manage 3rd party controls engineers. Define scope and provide specifications for detail engineering during project execution. Define overall control philosophy and develop control system architecture diagram.
- Define and coordinate short-circuit and coordination studies, power quality studies, harmonics mitigation, cable sizing, panel schedules, area classification drawings, earthing and lightning protection systems, instrument loop diagrams, I/O lists, cable schedules, panel layouts, control system architecture, and network system architecture as required on each project.
- Define scope and review designs for indoor, outdoor and emergency lighting systems.
- Design, coordinate, and support implementation of Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV systems including power distribution, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFD's, RVSS, UPS systems, emergency power systems, communication systems, and security systems.
- Develop and support control philosophies & solutions across DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, and SIS (Safety Instrumented System such as safety PLC) automation systems. Coordinate instrumentation selection, installation, calibration, loop checking, and functional testing activities.
- Coordinate and review electrical lighting systems including indoor, outdoor, emergency, and industrial lighting layouts, calculations and integration with 3rd Party engineers while ensuring compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases. Conduct site inspections, resolve field issues, coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, and ensure installation activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Support FAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, energization, troubleshooting, and system validation activities to ensure systems operate as intended.
- Prepare labor estimates and project cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation systems. Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations and supplier coordination.
- Coordinate with other internal and external engineers including process, mechanical (fire protection, HVAC, plumbing), architectural, civil, design and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, HAZOP meetings and technical discussions.
- Maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, reports, commissioning records, redlines, as-built drawings, and handover packages. Develop O&M manual sections related EIC components. Provide technical reports and project status updates to all project stakeholders
Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience within industrial EIC systems in related chemical process, manufacturing or renewable energy industries with on site and commissioning experience
- Strong understanding of MV and LV systems.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEC, ISA, IEEE
- Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred
- Ability to work in fast-paced project development, EPC and construction environments.
- Experience designing and commissioning DCS, PLC, SCADA facility from FEL/FEED through startup and commissioning including integration multiple controls platforms at a single facility.
- Ability to operate AutoCAD Electrical, and PID module of Plant 3D preferred

Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field.
Additional Information
- Location: This position is remote or onsite in the Kennesaw GA office
- Work Environment: Office environment with field time as required at BurCell’s operating facility in Cordele, GA or projects sites.
- Travel: Up to 25% domestically. Occasional Internation travel may be required.
Pay: $75.00 - $95.00 per hour
