Job Title: Junior Varsity 1 Girls Basketball CoachSchool: North Middlesex Regional High SchoolLocation: 19 Main Street, Townsend, MA 01469Job Description: The North Middlesex School District is seeking a Junior Varsity (JV) Girls Basketball Coach to lead and develop student-athletes at the JV level. The JV coach will serve as a key mentor, helping athletes transition from middle school or freshman-level play to the varsity program. The coach will emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility, preparing student-athletes to contribute successfully at the varsity level.The JV coach will collaborate closely with the Head Varsity Coach, assistant coaches, and the Athletic Director to ensure program continuity and alignment with North Middlesex Athletics mission and core values.Key Responsibilities: Player Development & InstructionPlan and conduct structured JV practices emphasizing fundamentals, teamwork, conditioning, and game awareness.Provide individualized feedback and instruction to improve shooting, passing, dribbling, defensive positioning, footwork, and overall basketball IQ.Foster athlete growth by teaching resilience, leadership, teamwork, and discipline both on and off the court.Identify and develop players with potential to advance to the varsity program.Game Preparation & ManagementPrepare JV athletes for competition by creating lineups, rotations, and game strategies under the guidance of the Head Varsity Coach.Supervise and coach athletes during games, ensuring adherence to team principles, sportsmanship, and competitive effort.Conduct post-game evaluations with athletes to encourage learning and continuous improvement.Team Culture & MentorshipPromote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture aligned with North Middlesex Athletics core values.Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and respect for all participants.Support student-athletes academic and personal growth by emphasizing the importance of balancing school and athletics.Encourage leadership and responsibility among JV athletes, fostering a sense of pride and commitment to the program.Collaboration & CommunicationMaintain regular communication with the Head Varsity Coach regarding player development, practice plans, and game strategy.Coordinate with parents, school staff, and administrators to ensure alignment between athletics, academics, and personal development.Participate in program-wide meetings and planning to ensure JV and varsity programs are closely integrated.Safety & ComplianceEnsure a safe environment during practices, games, and team activities.Adhere to all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS guidelines, including injury prevention, concussion awareness, and emergency protocols.Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion in Sports Training.Qualifications: Required: Experience coaching basketball at the middle or high school level, or strong playing experience at the high school or collegiate level.Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, JV-level strategies, and skill development techniques.Ability to mentor and motivate developing athletes while fostering a positive team culture.Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Compliance with all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.Preferred: Previous JV or assistant high school coaching experience.Experience preparing athletes for varsity-level competition.Background in player development, strength and conditioning, or sports psychology.Salary: Per North Middlesex Regional School District Coach Stipend Schedule.
