The Licensed Electrician performs electrical maintenance, repair, inspection, and installation work across all EPA-RTP facilities. This position ensures the continuance of safe, code-compliant electrical service to the campus and is responsible for a broad range of electrical systems from lighting and low-voltage panels to generators and UPS systems.
Responsibilities

Perform electrical safety inspections, maintenance, and repair on a continual basis across all EPA-RTP facilities

Accomplish minor repairs during preventive maintenance inspections including frayed wire and plug/receptacle replacements

Maintain and update electrical panel schedules and related documentation as required

Perform lamp and ballast replacement; manage storage and recycling of expended lamps per federal and state regulations

Review and recommend changes to the electrical preventive maintenance program within 30 days of contract start

Ensure all electrical work complies with current North Carolina Electrical Code (NEC-based with NC amendments)

Maintain and repair electrical systems including unit substations, low voltage panels, generators, transformers, and UPS systems

Support maintenance of solar street lighting, photovoltaic arrays, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)

Coordinate with the High Voltage Electrician on medium voltage system work as appropriate

Document all electrical work in the CMMS per government requirements
Position Requirements

Minimum 5 years of experience working electrical services in commercial facilities

At least one electrician on staff must hold, as a minimum, an unlimited State of North Carolina Electrical Contractor's License (required)

Strong familiarity with North Carolina Electrical Code and the National Electrical Code (NEC)

Experience with a broad range of commercial electrical systems including lighting, panels, generators, transformers, and UPS systems

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
