Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Summit Cancer Care (SCC), the Effingham Cancer Care Center Nurse Manager oversees day-to-day operations of the practice for efficiency and supervises personnel. The Nurse Manager works hand in hand with Effingham Health System (EHS) leadership and staff to ensure a cohesive and positive environment for staff and patients. The Cancer Care Center includes lab, physician clinic, oncology infusion center, registration, financial counselor, pharmacy, oncology scheduler, and oncology new patient coordinator.
The Nurse Manager continually evaluates and implements changes for processes needing improvement. This position ensures that the responsibilities and accountability of all direct reports are defined and understood. This work involves the regular exercise of discretion and judgment regarding all business, department, employee, patient, and related topics.
An important role of the Nurse Manager is to lead by example to demonstrate a positive teamwork environment which reflects the values and mission of SCC and EHS.
Demonstrates generalized understanding of all direct reports’ roles & responsibilities in order to evaluate, be a resource for, and assist / cover in positions to complete tasks within job scope, certification(s), and training. This means at times needing to cover staff positions such as scheduling, new patient coordination, phlebotomy, medical assisting, or treatment nurse during staff absences, high patient volumes, and to keep familiar with each position in charge of supervising.
Ensures the needs and quality of care for all patients are of the highest priority and acts in a timely manner to resolve any patient issues as necessary.
Conducts regular staff meetings to exchange information and provides regular check-ins / feedback with staff.
Reviews employee performance and recommends salary adjustments.
Recruits, hires, staff retention, disciplines, coaches, and terminates employees in conjunction with the COO at SCC and EHS Human Resources.
Coordinates staffing schedule and timecards assuring all functions are adequately covered. Works in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Lead to ensure adequate staffing is in place for the infusion room to operate efficiently.
Evaluates, recommends, and implements policy and procedure changes in conjunction with the SCC COO / CEO or EHS Leadership.
Reports site activity to the SCC COO at a minimum on a weekly basis and as soon as possible for any other information as necessary.
Communicates and participates with SCC and EHS leadership to include meetings such as EHS daily Safety Huddle, EHS CLT / SLT meetings, and SCC management team to ensure consistency between locations.
Closely monitors and assesses schedules for accuracy and efficiency with the scheduler, provider teams, phlebotomist, and Clinical Nurse Lead on a daily basis.
Demonstrates effective and clear communication with direct reports, providers, EHS staff, SCC leadership, patients, and patient families / loved ones.
Become Subject Matter Expert status for Cerner to be a resource for staff, conduct chart audits, work with EHS Charge Validation, Biller & Coders, etc.
Maintains employee files through SCC and provides EHS HR documents when necessary to include certifications, licensure, EHS required ARTs, annual EHS occupations health requirements, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education
Associate’s degree in nursing (required)
Bachelor’s degree in nursing / healthcare (required) Master’s degree in nursing / healthcare (preferred)
- 2 years of Oncology experience (preferred)
- - 3 years Healthcare Management / Leadership (required) 4 - 5 years of direct patient nursing care (required)
Misc. Familiarity or Direct Experience in Healthcare Scheduling, Revenue Cycle (Insurance/billing), Registration, & Medical Assisting
Georgia State Registered Nurse License or Nurse Licensure Compact (required) ONS / ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification (required)
BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association (required) ONCC Oncology Certified Nurse OCN (preferred)
Under general direction, functions independently in coordination of assigned duties. Refers to SCC COO and EHS Leadership as appropriate on clarification of practice policy and procedure and HR personnel support. Works in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Lead and Executive Director of Operations on matters regarding clinical quality and efficiency.
Directly supervises all Summit Cancer Care staff, both clinical and non-clinical at the Effingham Cancer Care Center. Consults with the SCC COO regarding clinical decision making and actions when necessary.
Communicate verbally and written with employees, physicians, patients, patient family members and the public as a representative of the practice.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by practice and must be worn when there is a reasonable risk of occupational exposure to blood or body fluids.
Minimal risk for contact with blood and body fluids for this position.
