Route time for monitor starts at 6:50am and ends at 8:20am. Position in Monday through Friday throughout the school year.
Job Summary:
This position assists in transporting of student to and from school. Responsibilities include: loading/unloading and securing wheelchair-bound students, assisting behavioral disabled students, monitoring student behavior on the bus, assisting physically disabled students, assisting students in the use of car seats, seat belts, etc during the trip to and from school.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in transporting students to and from school; loads/unloads and secures wheelchair bound students; assists in loading and unloading students; fastens students into seat restraints of all kinds; provides physical assistance to students, as appropriate.

Communicates with students with impairments, handicaps and behavior problems; encourages appropriate behavior. Positions oneself in a position on the bus suitable to observe behavior. Engages students in learning activities.

Supervises students during transport. Monitors behavior and mediates disputes; maintains order. Ensures that children follow rules and regulations concerning bus safety. Restrains students if necessary. Alerts staff members concerning unsafe conditions.

Lifts and positions students; responds to emergencies to protect student safety.

Provides first aid care to ill or injured students during transport.

Communicates with transportation director any concerns.

Maintains confidentiality regarding students and staff with sensitive issues.

Performs similar, related duties as assigned.

Transportation Supervisor
Working conditions:
Required to lift 70-75 pounds. Experiences frequent interruptions. Occasionally required to work outdoors in inclement weather and to deal with problems or emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience working with children, school setting desirable.

Ability to learn and perform proper restraint techniques.

Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds

Must be 18 or older

Licenses/Special Requirements:
Current First Aid and CPR as required by district. Must have or be willing to learn proper restraint techniques.

- Position is Represented by the PSE Union. Bus monitors currently employeed as a Paraeducator with the Concrete School District are subject to Bus Para rate of pay.
