We are looking for a full-time, experienced Assistant General Manager with supervisory experience to work closely with the General Manager of Formaggio Kitchen at Huron Ave. The AGM will assist with operations, procedures, and supervising and training staff. The AGM may work in all front of house areas, so there is ample opportunity to learn from all departments. Prior food or retail experience is required.
The ideal candidate is a self starter and has strong communication and problem solving skills. As an Assistant General Manager at our flagship shop, you not only have access to our incredible assortment of cheeses (many of them exclusive to us in the US), you also have access to hundreds of other specialty products that have been hand selected by our lead buyers from across the globe. With nearly 50 years of experience in the industry, Formaggio Kitchen has developed close relationships with producers domestically and abroad.
As a company we encourage staff to take ownership of ideas and initiatives, and we are committed to providing support and resources to allow our staff to achieve their goals. This has included farm visits, buying trips, access to in-depth product training with producers, and development of new programs and marketing initiatives within the store (to name a few).
A full-time AGM's work schedule requires flexibility to work all shifts, including weekends and around the holidays. Formaggio Kitchen offers a unique work
environment with great staff, fantastic customers, and an opportunity for challenge and learning every day. Benefits for eligible employees include a staff discount, health insurance contribution, 401K, sick time, and paid vacation.
Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Team leadership, including hiring, training, performance reviewing and education
- Commitment to Formaggio Kitchen’s dedication to artisanal producers and our exemplary customer service
- Merchandising and product sourcing/buying
- Safety and regulatory compliance
- Monitoring product and labor costs and assisting the GM in addressing variances
- Responsibility for staffing the shop, including acting as an interim department manager, if needed
These are the baseline expectations, but we’d like to tailor the position to the employee’s interests. If the AGM is passionate about developing in a certain area, we would like to provide room for that.
Skills and Experience:
- Prior food and/or retail experience required
- At least one year in a supervisory or managerial capacity in a specialty food retail or wholesale environment preferred
- History of providing excellent customer service
- Demonstrated strong work ethic
- Equally exceptional skills in working with people of various backgrounds
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Strong communicator
- Passion for food
- Drive to learn the extensive selection we have to offer
Additional qualities we are looking for:
- Natural problem solver
- Highly organized
- Exceptional attention to detail
- The ability to anticipate and resolve issues/problems on a proactive basis
- Excellent collaborative skills to work in partnership with department leads, store management and customers
- Experience with retail POS systems / computers
We are looking not simply for a qualified person, but someone with the aptitude and energy to contribute to our company going forward. This position has a great deal of growth potential including purchasing, travel and staff development.
Competitive salary and benefits based on experience. Salaried, varies DOE, $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
