Position Summary:
A Vocal Music Teacher is responsible for developing students' vocal abilities, musical knowledge, and performance skills. They plan and deliver engaging lessons, teach proper singing techniques, prepare students for performances and examinations, and foster an appreciation for music in a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach vocal techniques, including breathing, pitch, tone, diction, and vocal health.
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate music lessons for individuals or groups.
- Assess students' vocal abilities and create personalized learning plans.
- Prepare students for concerts, competitions, recitals, auditions, and examinations.
- Teach music theory, sight-reading, rhythm, and ear training as appropriate.
- Select suitable repertoire based on students' skill levels and interests.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain attendance, lesson plans, and student performance records.
- Organize and participate in school or community musical events.
- Collaborate with parents, colleagues, and school administrators to support student development.
- Ensure proper care and use of musical equipment and teaching materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred for some positions).
- Teaching certification or license (where required).
- Formal vocal training and strong performance skills.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.

Working Conditions
- Work in schools, colleges, music academies, or private studios.
- May teach during evenings or weekends for private lessons or rehearsals.
- Participate in performances, rehearsals, and school events as needed.

- After-school rehearsals and concerts are required to build and maintain a successful vocal ensemble.
- Consistent participation is essential to developing a cohesive, high-quality, and competitive performance-based vocal music program.
- Participation in MSVMA: Michigan School Vocal Music Association events is also required, as these experiences provide valuable opportunities for musical growth, performance evaluation, and representation of the program.
