Position: Supervisor of Teaching and Learning, Secondary Humanities, Arts, H/PE
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent
Terms of Employment: 260-day work year (MNAA Agreement)
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic and Cultural Leadership
Provide leadership in secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs, ensuring alignment with district vision, Pennsylvania Academic Standards, and district priorities.
Foster a culture of academic excellence, literacy, inquiry, creativity, wellness, and student engagement across all areas of humanities oversight.
Promote a positive, collaborative culture among staff, students, and families by modeling ethical, student-centered leadership.
Support the development and implementation of innovative instructional opportunities and programming that enhance student learning and engagement in the humanities.
Coordinate and support visual and performing arts programming, events, and related operational needs in collaboration with school administration and staff.
Systems Leadership
Supervise curriculum, instruction, and assessment for secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs.
Coordinate assessment practices and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines as they relate to areas of supervision.
Manage and support instructional programs through scheduling, resource allocation, curriculum review, and observation cycles.
Oversee the implementation of district initiatives within areas of humanities oversight, including curriculum revisions, instructional shifts, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and literacy-focused instructional practices.
Maintain aligned curriculum in areas of responsibility in accordance with district expectations and regional, state, and national standards.
Collaborate with district administration and staff to support intervention and enrichment services related to Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Child Study Team (CST) processes, and other regular education support programming.
Manage and make recommendations for budget items related to areas of oversight.
Lead and maintain the district’s new teacher orientation and induction programming.
Leadership for Learning / Student Achievement
Support teachers in developing and implementing high-quality instructional practices in secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, Library, Health, Art, and Physical Education programs.
Conduct formal and informal classroom observations, providing actionable feedback to improve teaching and learning.
Design and facilitate professional development aligned with district goals, instructional best practices, and content-specific needs across humanities disciplines.
Lead curriculum development, review, and adoption processes, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels and courses.
Use multiple sources of data to evaluate program effectiveness, inform instructional decisions, and support continuous improvement.
Collaborate with building principals, counselors, and intervention staff to support high-quality intervention programming and student achievement in related areas of oversight.
Support the implementation of disciplinary literacy practices, writing across content areas, inquiry-based learning, discussion protocols, and performance-based learning experiences across humanities programs.
Demonstrate, model, and support staff in the development and implementation of best instructional practices.
Support teachers individually and in teams for the purpose of strengthening their understanding and application of curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and instructional materials.
Professional and Community Leadership
Collaborate with principals, supervisors, and district leaders to improve instruction, programming, and student outcomes.
Communicate effectively with faculty, families, and community stakeholders regarding instructional programs, curriculum, resources, and student needs.
Provide direction and support to faculty and families in developing instructional strategies that respond to students’ academic and individual needs.
Assist principals and district administrators with staff development needs both district-wide and within individual schools.
Develop, facilitate, and present professional learning opportunities, in-service sessions, and curriculum-related training for staff.
Seek and write grants to expand instructional opportunities and student experiences in areas of oversight.
Attend and support district humanities- and arts-related events and activities as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
Valid Pennsylvania certification in one or more relevant humanities content areas preferred (e.g., English, Social Studies, Health/Physical Education, Art), with Supervisory certification, or Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Principal, or Letter of Eligibility.
Teaching and curriculum/instruction experience preferred, particularly at the secondary level.
Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, intervention systems, and disciplinary literacy across humanities-related disciplines.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated expertise in instructional leadership, data-informed decision-making, professional learning, and the use of technology to support curriculum, assessment, and data analysis.
Working Environment / Essential Duties

Walks the school buildings and premises.
Attends and monitors extra-curricular district activities/events.
Ensures effective communication between the Teaching and Learning Team, schools, other buildings, and central administration.
Assists with personnel matters including recruitment, selection, assignment, transfer, promotion, and discipline of staff, as appropriate.
Promotes and maintains a safe, respectful, and effective learning environment.
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent in alignment with the district’s mission and priorities.
Long periods of time sitting at a desk using a computer.
Long periods of time walking or standing on school premises.
On-premise attendance to facilitate meetings and interact with students, teachers, families, and colleagues.
Classified as sedentary work under the U.S. Department of Labor: requires exertion of up to ten pounds occasionally, with most tasks involving sitting. Periodic walking, standing, bending, or reaching may be required.
Regular use of hands for writing, file management, and operating office technology such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
Requires visual acuity for reading documents and computer screens, as well as auditory acuity for phone and in-person communication.
Strong verbal communication skills are essential for working with staff, administrators, parents, and community members.
The role demands professionalism, sound judgment, confidentiality, and maturity in handling sensitive and broad-based information.
Work may involve frequent interruptions and occasionally high-stress situations, particularly when addressing student concerns, staff matters, or parent inquiries. Collaboration and adaptability are essential.
