Basic Functions:
Under the guidance of the Machine Shop Foreman, the mechanic assigned to drilling flanges, tubesheets & baffles by operating CNC/VTL machines and maintaining quality and safety standards.
Major Duties:
- Plans by studying drawings, material types and/or other specifications.
- Sets-up parts and tools needed for the job.
- Maintains specifications by observing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, replacing worn tools, and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Qualifications:
Knowledge –
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of machining practices.
- Must be able to read and understand drawings.
- Must be proficient in basic math (fractions and decimals).
- Must be proficient in reading measuring devices - measuring tapes, scales, calipers, dial indicators.
- Must have ability to follow instructions, shop procedures and safety practices.
- Programming experience w/ Mazak controls or similar is preferred (not required).
- VTL/Vertical Mill and Radial Drill experience preferred
Skills –
- Fabrication shop practices
- Able to read & interpret drawings
- Read & write the English language
- Experience in training or fab exposure (OJT)
Working Conditions –
Heat, chemical exposure, pinching hazards, standing for prolonged periods of time, kneeling, some climbing and must lift 50-60 lbs.
