SVCC is seeking a Coordinator of Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs. The Coordinator of Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs serves as a member of the Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs leadership team and provides operational leadership for the daily administration of federal, state, institutional, and military educational assistance programs. The position coordinates financial aid processing, oversees assigned operational functions, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, supervises assigned staff, and provides guidance to students throughout the financial aid process.
Working collaboratively with internal departments, external agencies, and military partners, the Coordinator supports student success by promoting equitable access to financial resources while maintaining compliance with federal, state, Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and institutional requirements.
The Coordinator reports to the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success and will serve students across all Southside Virginia Community College locations.
Financial Aid Administration
- Assists with the administration of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs.
- Coordinates daily financial aid operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of student aid.
- Interprets and applies federal regulations, state guidelines, and institutional policies.
- Reviews student records to determine aid eligibility and resolve discrepancies.
- Assists with professional judgment, special circumstance, dependency override, and other regulatory processes as assigned.
Supports reconciliation, reporting, and quality assurance activities.

Veterans Affairs
- Coordinates certification of veterans, active-duty military personnel, reservists, National Guard members, and eligible dependents receiving educational benefits.
- Serves as a School Certifying Official or maintains eligibility to become certified.
- Ensures compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs regulations and reporting requirements.
- Advises military-affiliated students regarding available educational benefits and enrollment requirements.
Maintains accurate certification records and communicates with the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding student eligibility.

Compliance and Operations
- Assists in maintaining compliance with Title IV regulations, state financial aid requirements, VCCS policies, and institutional procedures.
- Coordinates verification, satisfactory academic progress, return of Title IV funds, overaward resolution, and other compliance activities.
- Assists in preparation for federal, state, VCCS, and independent financial aid audits and program reviews.
- Maintains accurate documentation and records supporting compliance activities.
Recommends process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and student service.

Student Service and Outreach
- Provides exceptional customer service to current and prospective students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Explains financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, application procedures, and financing options.
- Assists with financial aid presentations, orientations, workshops, and outreach events.
Responds to complex student concerns while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Leadership and Staff Development
- Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates assigned staff.
- Assists with establishing office procedures and operational priorities.
- Supports cross-training initiatives to ensure continuity of services.
- Serves on college committees and workgroups as assigned.
Collaborates with Enrollment Management, Business Office, Admissions & Records, Student Experience, Information Technology, and Academic Affairs to improve student services.

Systems, Reporting, and Technology
- Utilizes Student Information Systems, federal financial aid systems, and VCCS technologies to process student records.
- Assists with data validation, reporting, reconciliation, and operational analysis.
Maintains data integrity and supports continuous improvement initiatives through accurate reporting and documentation.

Special Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs leadership team.
- Acts on behalf of the Vice President or department leadership in their absence as assigned.
- Maintains current knowledge of changes in federal regulations, veterans educational benefits, and best practices in financial aid administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success.
