Location: Scotland County Humane Society
Schedule: will vary depending on needs
Weekend rotation cleaning/feeding dogs and cats (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday)
Possibly needed during the week some weeks
Approximately 25 hours per week
Position Summary
The Scotland County Humane Society is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable individual to serve as our Part-Time Animal Care and Support Staff Specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shelter Operations & Animal Care
● Cross-train and assist with cleaning and sanitation of dog kennels and cat housing
areas.
● Sweep, mop, and remove trash daily.
● Stock cat room supplies, including newspapers and litter + dog
food bin in back
● Walk dogs and provide enrichment opportunities when requested.
● Assist with lifting and moving animals, food, litter, and other shelter supplies.
● Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for animals and visitors.
Additional Responsibilities
● Perform other duties as assigned to support shelter operations and animal welfare.
Qualifications
● Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
● Strong communication skills.
● Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality.
● Professional appearance and demeanor.
● Comfortable working around dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Technical Skills
● Ability to learn shelter management software is neededPhysical Requirements
● Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday.
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
● Ability to safely handle cleaning supplies, animal food, litter, and other shelter materials.
● Ability to work in a shelter environment with animal hair, odors, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications
● Previous experience in animal welfare, veterinary, rescue, or shelter environments.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to assist with kennel cleaning, animal care, lifting, stocking supplies, and other hands-on shelter duties as needed. All team members contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the animals in our care.

Pay: From $12.75 per hour
