- Plan and purchase materials, components, and parts to ensure availability while maintaining competitive costs and appropriate inventory levels.
- Review MRP demand daily and place purchase orders based on forecasts, customer requirements, and production needs.
- Process and maintain supplier order confirmations.
- Monitor shortages and past-due materials and proactively expedite parts to prevent production delays.
- Maintain an accurate expedite log and work with suppliers to resolve recurring delivery issues.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships and negotiate effectively to achieve optimal cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Maintain a database of substitute materials, alternate processes, and potential new suppliers.
- Evaluate make-versus-buy opportunities and consider future demand and forecast requirements.
- Manage inventory and purchasing practices to minimize excess, obsolete, and surplus inventory.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, and other internal departments to ensure material requirements are met.
- Manage an assigned group of suppliers and handle day-to-day purchasing activities and order placement.
- Plan and release work orders to the production floor based on customer forecasts, demand, available materials, and production capacity.
- Review production planning and scheduling reports and make adjustments based on labor and capacity constraints.
- Collaborate with Inside Sales, Engineering, and Production to establish and maintain achievable production schedules.
- Review customer forecasts and plan material requirements and production capacity accordingly.
- Maintain customer information and schedules within the Applied Customer Portal (SNG), including weekly forecast and open-order updates.
- Run shortage reports and proactively address potential material constraints.
- Respond to customer expedite requests by coordinating with Purchasing and Production to determine the best achievable delivery date based on material availability and production capacity.
- Identify potential scheduling or supply-chain issues before they impact customer deliveries.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, materials planning, production planning, or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and supply-chain operations.
- Experience working with MRP/ERP systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer systems.
- Experience working with suppliers and managing purchasing activities.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, material requirements, and inventory management.
